I
was born and grew up in the Southern China. After I earned my BE and ME in
mechanical and automotive engineering respectively, I worked as a lecturer at Hunan University, China for 7 years! Then I realized that I needed to extend
my vision
overseas.
The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) had me come to Australia in late 1993, with which I completed another Master degree in manufacturing engineering at The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Then I joined Department of Aeronautical Engineering at The University of Sydney for pursuing my PhD degree under the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA). The 3.5 year doctoral study had me walk into the research frontier on design optimization. After I received my PhD, I joined Cornell University, USA as a postdoctoral research associate, in which I was intensively involved in the collaborative research and development in design optimization of metal forming with US aerospace industry. The life and work in the States were exciting to me. I had a chance to travel across the North American continent from the east to the west coasts. During my 15-month staying in the States, Australian Research Council (ARC) awarded me an APD Fellowship at The University of Sydney. This attracted me back to Australia at the end of 2001. |
