Special Consideration
 
Information

Special consideration is an opportunity to show that you have reached the required standard in a course, even though you are temporarily unable to sit the scheduled examination. It is usually given in the form of a supplementary examination. Special consideration is not an insurance policy to avoid the scheduled exam or to have a second try.

In general, special consideration will not be given in the following cases:

• there is no good record of achievement in assignments or other forms of assessment for the course concerned

• there is no prior medical record or verifiable evidence of claimed disability -- a doctor’s certificate for non-verifiable, one-day ailments such as dizziness, nausea, headache, etc., is not sufficient

• the claimed misadventure is avoidable; e.g., late train, flat tyre, wrong timetable, etc.
