Associate Professor Dr. Peter Gibbens
Dr. Peter Gibbens received his B.E. in aeronautical engineering from the University of Sydney in 1984 and his PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of Newcastle NSW in 1993.
He is currently an Associate Professor in flight mechanics with the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Sydney. His previous appointments were as a Professional Officer from 1984 to 1987 and as a Research Scientist from 1993 to 1996 with the Air Operations Division of the Defence Science and Technology Organisation of Australia.
His fields of interest include flight stability and control, visual aerial navigation and automation, simultaneous localisation and mapping, predictive control, aerodynamic parameter estimation and flight test techniques, and teaching and learning improvement in flight dynamics and control.
Dr. Gibbens was awarded a citation for Outstanding
Contributions to Student Learning in 2010 from the
Australian Learning and Teaching Council for
experiential learning improvement in flight dynamics
and control using variable stability flight
simulation.
