Annika van Hummel

Research Area: S100 Proteins in Bone and Cartilage

Project: S100 proteins have long been known to be involved in inflammation and inflammatory diseases, however, recently they were found to be expressed by bone and cartilage cells also. This project focuses on why they are expressed by these cells, what role(s) they play in bone and cartilage, and what implications this has for osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease affecting both bone and cartilage.
